Classic. Unfortunately, this is an obscure band. They have a very unique prog sound.

Another one of my favourite albums of all time, discovered very early on when I became a devoted underground record hunter in the early 90s. Despite the modest production values, this is a well-polished LP played with musical flair, finesse & humour. In the Canterbury Tales DVD release Dave Newhouse stated that he was influenced at the time by Hatfield & The North and Robert Wyatt's "Rock Bottom". Those influences can clearly be heard here, particulary in "The Adventures Of Captain Boomerang". What is also discernible, however, to my mind at least, is a wealth of hot jazz (New Orleans Dixieland), Big Band-era Swing and Bebop in the saxophone and clarinet runs, synthesized with the sensibilities of jazz-rock (though this album is sharper and much more focused than your average fusion or jazz-rock record). Still an exhilarating release and easily the best album of its type.

They were one of the best live bands there ever was. Anyone who was ever priviledged enough to see them in the 70's knows this. Unfortunately, this never got captured to vinyl. But it was there, I saw it, I heard it.
