Notes
This is a 2019 reissue, differentiated from Spirit Of Eden by new matrices which begin with "BJ". The matrices indicate that this 2019 pressing was cut from a new lacquer commissioned specifically for this reissue, therefore meaning that it is not a repress or variant of any previous issue of the album. Year of release ascertained from the matrices.
Includes an audio-only DVD-Video (NTSC, Region 0) containing the album delivered as a 96kHz/24 bit LPCM stereo mix, as well as a printed inner sleeve for the record and printed card sleeve for the DVD.
The DVD includes an additional track, "John Cope", originally released in 1988 as B-side of "I Believe In You".

Audio only DVD: DVD 9 / region 0 / NTSC / aspect ratio: 16:9. 96khz/24bit LPCM stereo. Exempt from classification duration: 45.44. Although the audio on this DVD had been transferred from the original analogue stereo masters at 96khz/24bit, the audio used to create the final mixes was bounced down from analogue 2" 24 track to a Mitsubishi pro digi 32 track digital recorder which only recorded at a sampling rate of either 44.1khz plus, the use of the Mitshubishi, with a sampling rate of 44,1khz, means there is no content above 22khz on the original digital recordings and therefore all mixes / copies that followed would also be lacking in content above 22khz. ℗ 2012 the copyright in this compilation is owned by Parlophone Records Ltd. © 2012 Parlophone Records Ltd. Excellent album, great sounding, pressing is excellent.
Played on:
Technics SL-100C, Audio Technica VM-95ML, Rega Fono Mini A2D MK2, Technics SU-G700M2, Yamaha NS-777 -
Great album and pressing. The following comment listed in the notes is not correct. This does not indicate it was cut from a new lacquer. This just indicates the pressing year. This is why I love Optimal Media, so easy to tell the pressing year by the runout. B=Vinyl J=2019. The previous pressing was BC (C=2012). Not an indication it is a different lacquer, but a repress.

Edited one year agoA beautiful pressing and one where imo a tiny bit of crackle really adds to the vibe. Ive got a minor crackle on Wealth and it feels right. Its not obtrusive or ugly. If anything, it feels like a part of the ambiance. This comment is based on one play. So im expecting with more spins some of that crackle will ease off. The rest of the album sounds perfect.
I bought the original back in 88 and used to listen to it on a terrible set up of a nasty cheap deck with the audio outs going into a boombox 🤣. Audiophile not ! Yet it still sounded good enough. I would like to hear an original now although I doubt it sounds much different to this version.
Nice touch having the DVD audio too.
But yeah - best album of the 80s ? It’s certainly a.contender. -
Beautiful pressing as with all the Talk Talk related albums I own. No issues whatsoever and very clean!

Flawless in every aspect. Mastering, pressing, soundstage, highs-mids-bass well separated and clearly audible. Happy to have this masterpiece of an album.

Has anybody listened to the DVD? How does it sound?
Also, can somebody confirm this? “Although the audio on this DVD had been transferred from the original analogue stereo masters at 96khz/24bit, the audio used to create the final mixes was bounced down from analogue 2" 24 track to a Mitsubishi pro digi 32 track digital recorder which only recorded at a sampling rate of either 44.1khz plus, the use of the Mitshubishi, with a sampling rate of 44,1khz, means there is no content above 22khz on the original digital recordings and therefore all mixes / copies that followed would also be lacking in content above 22khz.” -
Bought this last week. My copy played pretty quiet (Side B was perfect) but I did note that the album even though new/sealed needed cleaning. I used cleaning fluid and a lint-free cloth, and noticed streaking from something from the manufacturing process.

Edited 2 years agoAfter reading the reviews here, I feel quite lucky - my copy (mint when purchased) is super silent upon the first playthrough; excellent dynamism; no distorted moments, even at the moments you might expect it (guitar solo in Eden, loud organ/guitar/percussion bits in Desire, for example). The lower-mixed instruments are well-represented. Really, as someone who has played this album hundreds of times since 1988 (cassette, LP, DVD-A, CD), I'm quite amazed by this pressing. If SoE means a lot to you, too, then grab it if you can.
