Something like a time capsule this album and Strata the 2 collaborative albums between the two musicians. Dark but not in a ominous way just mysterious bubbling ethno percussion and synthesizer done with panache and lots of emotion embedded into the nucleus of the compositions. Of the two releases I think Strata is my #1 go to but Soma is rest assured a very strong release. What the best thing about listening to these 90s releases is, the fact that you know these two were pioneers in a certain sound aesthetic that was divergent of the European more sequencer driven music. Theres the hint of that Eno influence but in all due respect Roach and Rich take the lead onto a new apex. As the years whine on returning to this music no only nourishes the senses but reminds many of us of a time when electronic music was just much more progressive aesthetic. Brilliant release.

I love "Soma" with all my heart. It's warm and soothing, but also works well with the dark and cold. It's quite an odd choice really, but to me, it is a go-to album by Steve Roach, at least in of his tribal style. It might not be the most popular of Steve's records, but if I were to put together my personal Top-3 - it would be there. Of course, I haven't heard all of Steve's discs and kudos to those who have; but, I'm getting there.
