Edited 27 days agoThe generic sleeve and misspelled labels scream low effort cash grab.
The rare live version of Black Night would have been nice for fans to have in 1975 so there’s that. But the compilation is a strangely unsatisfying affair.
Such a legendary band deserved better
The absence of anything from the then current line up feels like a diss from the compilers.
Management obviously thought it was all over.
Maybe my copy is too old and battered but i wasn’t particularly struck by the sound quality, especially in comparison to 1979’s more attractive collection
Nevertheless I will revisit the release and give it another go given the comments about the sound quality
If i want a Mark II compilation i tend to reach for the 1979 singles compilation which is arranged into a live side and studio side and has more powerful mastering and better artwork.
But usually i want a best of that covers
more of the 68-76 period so i love the quirky When We Rock We Rock with it’s adorable space ship themed artwork and inclusion of Highway Star , something you’d think would be mandatory for a Purple best of

This pressing sounds bloody amazing. Is it a demo LP to show off a high-end sound system? I'd say yes.
