Oh my Lord what a soundstage. What a bass definition, what amazingly clear vocals..blown away. This rivals the Zep II RL cut i also have.
-
Very nice. As mentioned some surface noise (light, quiet crackles) that are obvious in-between tracks but don't really interfere with the music. You know a good master of nevermind right away - when the opening snares of SMTS are round and full. Satisfied that it was so easy to find a great version of this album - it retails everywhere for cheap in Australia.

Edited one year agoGreat sound - rich with good instruments separation. Very happy that I got caught this pressing - new represses aren’t distinguishable between themselves.
After ultrasonic washing there is only a few clicks between some tracks. -
Sounds absolutely fantastic to me. Very little surface noise, little to no distortion, amazing sound overall.

Are any of the Back On Black issues different from the ones that just have the Pallas sticker on the front? I'd be curious to know if the BOB has different mastering and possible QC issues.
-
If you're looking for an affordable good pressing of Nevermind, I'd say this is the one to pick. Unopened, it looks the same as the dreadful 2008 GZ Digital Media pressing but this one was cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering's facility, which, along with a Pallas pressing, makes all the difference it seems. Recommended.

Edited 2 years agoI normally steer clear of Back to Black releases but solely on the basis of the positive reviews here ;and the fact that BG is the mastering engineer; compelled me to buy a copy which has arrived today. Looking forward to listening today once I have the house to myself ;)

Edited 3 years agoThe inner sleeve this comes in should be considered the gold standard for any half decent pressing. So silky and soft, poly lined, with no hole for the label. Manufacturers would probably suffer alot less blowback (aka: returns) if they shipped all new vinyl in sleeves of this quality.
Oh btw, sound is killer 10/10. -
Picked up a copy of this from Amazon UK a few weeks ago, mine has a noticeable "rip" or "swishing" sound on the lead-in and between tracks once or twice every revolution. I understand this could be the no-fill problem? Anyone else had the same issue with this release? Not sure whether to order another copy and compare, then return the faulty one?
