I love this album, and it almost seems like an alternative universe version…seems to be a different mix, though I’ve done no A-B testing, just my impression after a couple of spins. The thing that struck me the most, is not hearing that little bass riff on the opening track Lizard Point. It was maybe the most memorable point on the album, a kind of taste of what is to come, but I did not hear that on this release, which seems really weird!!!

Oh my God. This is so good. Today is the day I bought this release and the first time I have ever listened to this masterpiece. The pressing is fantastic. Dead quiet vinyl and no clicks and pops. It sounds like the master tapes to me. The level of detail and depth, the airiness, it is astonishing. Such a brilliant ambient album. Wow. [ Playing this using an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge ]

It sounds great but boy these are the shortest sides at 10 minutes each. This is the kind of music to put your feet up and sit back and enjoy not get up every 10 minutes to change the side/ record . Great music though regardless

I just replaced my original lp, bought new in 82, with this stunning edition, and have no regrets. It is a serious upgrade.

Edited 4 years agoThis album and pressing are perfect. Ambient can be tough for vinyl, even the slightest surface noise can really ruin it. This pressing sounds incredible and is totally silent. Highly recommend.

It was a positively transcendental moment listening to this pressing fresh out of the clingwrap. I have had a copy of this album in it's standard vinyl form for good many years. When I noticed the series of half speed masters had been released, I took a punt, and it was as though I was experiencing it as an entirely new album. I wish all my vinyl would sound this good.

Once again, Mr Showell has done a fine job on the remaster, unpacking the strands of the music a little, but not too much. It sounds clearer and more spacious than on previous masters but still retains its earthy and organic quality.
QC is, as usual in this series, erratic: I had to return my first one (for a pressing fault causing a recurrent thumping sound on side 3), as I had to do with one of their Japan remasters in the summer and Another Green World last year. The second one was perfect though. If you can find a non-faulty pressing, I’d say this is worth getting. The best I’ve heard this album sound.
