Edited one year agoI have a second copy now, as well, #4931. (The other is #1419.) This one is better, though there's a bit of a rough start on both sides, clearly due to pressing issues, as I cleaned it ultrasonically before playing it.
I should also say something about the music. I LOVE this album. It might be Within Temptation's best. After the success of "Ice Queen", they become a bit more poppy. This is a really original sort of mix of metal and shoegaze, in a weird way. The song "Enter" reminds me a lot of Cocteau Twins at their best, but much heavier. -
My copy of this has a horrific pressing defect at the start of side 1. It's completely distorted. It's bad enough that I had to skip forward in the song. I don't know if that's one-off or if it affects more copies. Side 2 also has some minor issues at the start, though it isn't nearly as bad.
For anyone who's curious, once that's all avoided, this is a pretty good pressing. Compared to digital streamed from Qobuz (44/16), it's got more definition and sense of space, though that may be more due to the fact that my vinyl playback system is somewhat better than my digital one.
