I received and returned two (2) different copies, both with one of the weirdest sounding aberrations I've ever encountered on Side B of LP 3 (i.e. Side F - Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 6 In D Major, BWV 1012). I returned both. The first had multiple of these, whereas the second only had one. this was not a pop or click, it sounded like a horn blast. Very very odd. -
Wonderful sound, and beautifully crafted triple album. Love how there are 6 suites and 6 sides, with 6 movements each. For a cello lover like myself this is a dream come true - solo cello plumbed, the instrument wrung of all its goodness, naked and beautiful. Thanks Bach, and thanks Yo-yo Ma who has been playing these suites over 50 years, since age 4. The first one was the first thing he ever played - and the familiarity shows. This was a paltry $26 on Amazon, and one of the most satisfying record purchases I’ve had in a while. -
Hard to believe that we are not tired of hearing him play these Bach cello suites and that he is not sick of playing them for us; nonetheless, I can't play side 1 or 6 without getting a serious case of "the feels" - enormously affecting – but phenomenal from start to finish. This is a fantastic recording and a wonderful pressing. I am absolutely moved by it. I had previously lamented at not having the original 1983 recording in my vinyl collection. So, when I learned about this newest recording, I had to jump on it. It's amazing and nobody should hesitate to pick this up.
