WIRE at its finest (as they always are). 154 still defies easy categorization. I a friend calling this record goth - a pejorative to him. He's a dad who writes "content" now.

Wire's third and final studio release before their 8 year hiatus, 154 is a towering post/art punk record and it amazes me that this thing came out in the late 70's. Amazing production, I just wish the pink flag reissue included the 7" EP, just a nitpick from a completionist.

This pressing is better than my Dutch one, bought when this came out in 79 (and it was then one of the few records, together with Eno and PIL, that kept me from playing the Berlin Trilogy and Station to Station of Bowie over and over). The playing time is long yet the sound is clear now, in stead of hazy (in those days the mastering seemed aimed at weedsmokers), and the incredible bass comes through better. One of the few times the old analogue is beaten. Sole complaint, although my copy is flawless, the carton in which the vinyl is kept may cause damage, so get plastic protection!

Great pressing. There was some crackle between songs but that all but disappeared after a good cleaning. Lots of dynamics and subtle sounds come through in the mix.

My copy has a lot of crackle in the background. Not that great pressing in my opinion. I have unofficials which sound way better.
Bit disappointed by this one. -
The noisey vinyl could be caused by "release agent". A nice machine cleaning could help. Sometimes it takes a few good cleanings to quiet it down a bit.

Gotta say there's a bit more consistently audible scratchy surface noise on these Pink Flag reissues than I'd prefer. The overall sound itself is good but across the board the surface noise brings them down a small notch from what I would've expected. Still glad they exist of course...absolute classics all.

My copy has some pops but it could just be static from my TT. The only other copy of this I've ever had was the 4MenWithTurds pressing. I suppose anything would sound like gold in comparison to that piece of crud. Not too shabby.

I'd give the sound on this one an 8 or 9 out of 10. Generally very quiet wax and sounds like I have always ed! Thank you for reissuing this finally <3
