Crazy question for any collectors that own both the megaforce press and music for nations press, how different are the mastering? Which one is better, in your opinion? Also, how different are the covers? Like is one more purple than the other like the elektra and megaforce presses?

Just found a copy and wanted to compare with the double lp 45RPM DMM 87 UK version because of that I was always feeling something is missing. As soon as I put the needle on this one I realised what is wrong with the 87 pressing. I understood that I was always fooling myself like maybe they couldn't record this properly or something is wrong with my setup. This pressing has more dynamics and most importantly James's vocals are here. I went back my childhood when I was listening this album from my casette tape. The 87 45RPM edition sounds more clearer, punchier and louder but because of it's loudness, it loses some dynamics and because of the mastering, James's vocals are less prominent, it's like his voice is coming from deep background. Now it's time to get a fisrt issue of Master of Puppets cause I have that kind of same problems with that same double 45RPM DMM edition!

I bought this right when it came out at my local Tower Records and only played it once to put on tape so it's in NM shape. I never really listened to my albums but the tapes I made of them. I just pulled this out and am amazed how good it sounds. Best quality I have ever heard and proud to have picked this up in High School. Clear and punchy. I forgot how good analog sounds.

Edited 3 years agoI can confirm what P_Michaud in his comment here says: Watch out! Some sellers sell counterfeit copies of that! Maybe without even knowing it! But there are obvious differences if you compare to the original and the original is of superior quality:
Original: Etched Matrices, no heavyweight vinyl, thiner and less glossy sleeve, sharp cover-graphics
Counterfeit: Stamped Matrices, heavyweight vinyl and glossy thicker sleeve, blurred cover-graphics of inferior quality
Ask before buying! This also refers to this version: https://www.discogs.sie.com/release/1722463-Metallica-Ride-The-Lightning -
Beware, a very well made counterfeit of this version exists; it's not referred on Discogs yet, but for information it looks the same in every way, except that the graphics are slightly blurred and the matrices are stamped.
