WOW. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only guy listening to Don Ellis records, but whomever produced this reissue definitely did so with love. Fantastic record. A shout out to Elusive Disk for selling it to me.

A fantastic release! I confess I do not know Don Ellis’ music. I discovered this release while browsing other recent all-analogue MPS reissues — and I am a fan of the movie Whiplash, which features the opening track found on Soaring. Ellis’ version (along with many other album tracks) is made funkier by use of a lot of electric guitar and piano. Some tracks are punchy with a solid groove, while others are more experimental and grand. Pressing is flat and quiet. Highly recommended, especially at $22!
