I absolutly agree with tvfats review here...Besides that I think this is one of the creepiest soundtracks ever...sounds absolutly disturbing...A true mastepiece...

Record Store Day doesn't always put out the "BEST" stuff but this one IS a winner...Movie soundtrack by Gil Melle is ALL electronic..., this was way back in 1971 and that was a rarity on VINYL then...Dynamite movie by Michael Crichton and this far out sounding music more than works with the subject matter...Only 1500 released on RSD, so I am a happy camper having this more than eclectic LP on my shelf...It actually is die cut as a hexagonal album...Reminds me of the free plastic records that used to come in magazines in the 60's through the 80's...This is one you can say is "SUPER COOL" and be totally right...

Next Up: The Andromeda Strain
Record Store Release 2017
This is a slightly noisy album, lots of crackles throughout, I wonder how the original pressing is in comparison, I just didn't want to spend what people were asking for it. -

WOW...This is an absolutely amazing soundtrack but why charge so dang much? These RSD pressings are getting lame.

WOW... This is an absolutely amazing album! I'm so extremely happy that I was able to get one of these! If you don't have a copy of this very exclusive/limited reissue, I fully recommend you get your hands on one (as there's ONLY 1500 available WORLDWIDE)!
One of my favorite things about this LP is that it is, in fact, THE first all-electronic soundtracks ever released. It's sonically brilliant, ominous and discordant. Like a haunting electro-acid patchwork of analog synthesizer experiments mixed with atmospheric avant-garde inter-dimensional free jazz from the future.
Also, this record is essentially one of the greatest album-package-presentations of all time. As the RSD description mentions "The Andromeda Strain soundtrack is perhaps the most sought-after and expensive soundtracks produced, with one of the most elaborate packages in history. Featuring a silver-foil hexagon pod-like cover that folds open, revealing the hexagon shaped record." Which is astoundingly cool.
All of which caused me to finally watch 'The Andromeda Strain', which is a 1971 film directed by Robert Wise, based on the novel by Michael Crichton. A science-fiction techno-thriller documenting the efforts of a team of scientists investigating the mysterious outbreak of a deadly extraterrestrial microorganism. It's an excellent story (even more pertinent today), and it's truly a perfect soundtrack for the film.
tl;dr
So, to ultimately have it available for the first time, and exactly as it was in it's initial 1971 limited release, is incredibly awesome. -
