Notes
"A Little Spice" is the first Loose Ends album. The original UK version was released in 1984, though some early pressings may state "(P) 1983".
The album was released belatedly in the US and Canada, after "Hangin' On A String (Contemplating)" had become a hit, but before "Hangin" appeared (elsewhere) on the group's second album "So Where Are You?". The US & Canadian issues, with a re-ordered track list, replace "Feels So Right Now" with "Hangin' On A String". The album reached #5 on the US R&B chart, while "Hangin' On A String" became a #1 hit on both the US Dance and R&B charts.
Singles:
Choose Me (Rescue Me)
Hangin' On A String (Contemplating) (single from this album for US/Canada only)

The US Version of this album has an alternative tracklisting and is not the english version. What happenend there? -

This is where UK soul music started for me - I know LOTW and others had been around for a while but this is where high quality production and writing which punched above it's weight in the US black music market first appeared. This is a serioulsy good album from an underated band with a nice blend of ballads and more uptempo tunes. Give this a listen and enjoy it . -
The overall sound of this re-release is fine, but I'm left wondering if original master tapes were used for all the bonus tracks. I can't hear the vinyl hum or crackling (as on some so-called remasters), but at least "We've Arrived" sounds heavily processed.

For a US Loose Ends fan who bought all their stuff back in the 80s, these two CD reissues are a revelation - esp the bonus tracks/mixes. "Feel So Right Now" was cut from the original US version of "A Little Spice" LP/CD (to make room for "Hangin' On a String" from the second UK LP), so nice to have it included here - also, the pre-debut LP singles and B-sides are very nice inclusion, good value for dollar - interesting to hear early Loose End before they were Loose Ends (plural). All in all, Loose Ends are one of the greatest soul acts from the UK, if not the greatest and their lush, sophisticated brand of soul has aged well over the decades like a fine wine. They do owe a major debt to producer Nick Martinelli for taking their sound/groove to the next level to match US R&B counterparts. Alas, I've been waiting for lead singer Jane Eugene's solo album for years! Maybe 2013? Jane, are you listening? :)
