This Heat – This Heat

Awesome pressing. Too much rich and dynamic. Clean sound and decent packaging too.

That harsh review is nonsense: the remastering is superb and the pressing is very good, quiet and resonant. But…it is way off center like so many records printed in these early years of the vinyl renaissance were. An additional annoyance is the fact that they didn’t seem to understand that the blue side is the front cover so the track titles are backwards and the photo on the gatefold is upside down. Oh and the labels are also on the wrong sides. I’m glad I got this when it came out though: damn this is expensive now.

Can anyone recommend me albums / artists with similar sound?

These 3 cantankerous gits made music that even NOW, after it has been imitated and borne influence upon countless experimental acts, still shocks, bewilders, enthralls and inspires. Maybe the secret was being bolshy (their follow up DECEIT was MORE political and song-based) and living on porridge in order to plough ever penny they had into the music and their studio @ Cold Storage....(where are all the angry young people today? Waving Union Jacks and growing beards....2 things that Punk tried to sweep away!!!). One of the strangest things about the music is trying to place what inspired it: not punk, free improv, soundscapes, ambient, prog rock, noise....yet somehow it is part of those musics without leaving any discernible trace of those music's idioms. Straight Outta Brixton (though Charles Bullen was a sco and Gareth was Welsh).

Tracks are mixed radically. Live tracks on 2-track are mixed into studio versions (or is it the other way round?) and spin and explode into delirious noise which DOES recall one act: Faust. A unique band. Honestly. And 'this Heat' is a FANTASTIC name for a beat combo.

This cd has a 2 seconds gap between every song which means the last few tracks have ugly stop & go breaks instead of flowing into each other. Pretty annoying. Does anybody know if all cd versions are like this?

This is terrible, the original is way better. I'm guessing that other guy's piano issue was destroyed, because it sounds a lot better than this. Loads of noise, probably "remastered" to make Horizontal Hold punch more.

This version also had locked groove at the end of side B that repeats perpetually. Just the way it should be.

I am impressed by how fantastic the remastering of this record is. The sleeve is made of a very sturdy material and I enjoyed the insights given from the included booklet.

A must have. The best experimental music ever in my opinion.
