I have been listening to this album for many years starting with the original CD. Then in 2015 when it was pressed to vinyl for the first time for record store day, I was incredibly impressed by the entire packaging. This new remaster, as listened to on a high Fidelity set up, does not sound as good as the 2015 vinyl pressing. If you have a set up with a good subwoofer, you’ll notice that the low end and base on this remaster is not as detailed or warm as compared to the 2015 pressing. At times this new remaster has a few ages that seem wider in the sound stage, but it actually detracts a bit from the overall listening experience. If you’re looking for the best version of this timeless and avant-garde album, the 2015 RSD pressing is the best.

Sounds immaculate! Really nice pressing. The packaging is a little barebones, but doesn't bother me.

pretty wild to see my previous review for this album here on discogs was written 19 years ago. i would remove it for the rather naive and inaccurate descriptions and comparisons but it's honest and i was only 18 when i wrote it.

since writing that review, this has been an album that i have returned to over and over countless times. a companion on my journey through the past couple decades. each time i listen i grow to love it more and more. i have continued to persistently search for new sounds and still haven't ever found anything quite like intershop.

when i saw the remaster package for this and oasis i knew i owed it to myself to pick them both up. the first time i listened to these new versions, remastered by jorg burger, i was blown away. the source material feels as if it has been treated with utmost respect, even reverence. as somebody who has listened to this album hundreds of times, it is phenomenal to feel like I have been pulled into the music physically deeper than ever before. every detail feels magnified, the lows and highs are flawlessly defined, and individual elements all feel clearer, leading to the rendering of the whole at a level i may not have thought possible. wonderful work. leaving profound thanks for giving one of my all time favourites a new life. i'll continue to return to this one for as long as i'm here

This utter classic of German electronica is essential and the pressing sounds awesome.

            Well done KOMPAKT 👏

I very much enjoy the idea of the cover illustration for this release, the artist himself dressed up in some kind of space suit, ready to explore the unknown and go into the beyond (beyond space? beyond time? beyond sound?). Anonymous illustrator. Empty white background, only one concept being provided: 'intershop'. Googling it now gives you 'an independent provider of omnichannel commerce solutions', company working under the name since 1995, but it being the reason for the title of this album is unlikely.

So, what was the idea then? Of that one particular unique sounding word, along the Dettinger spaceman fella. Same could be asked about the music: it's amazingly abstract... I can only recognize some super slowed down ethnic-sounding flutes in track 2, the main sample in track 3 could maybe be trumpets, but that's pretty much it. Everything else feels indecipherable, synths, samples and effect leftovers being made music of. Music at its most simple form, mind you: uncanny drum patterns using minimalist percussion bits come and go, as waves of these ethereal drone motifs move back and forth, expanding and retracting at seemingly no discernible way because of how subtle every frequency, reverb and texture in this album is. Its otherwordly stuff, in a really chill, laid back way, but its quirkiness isn't designed with the purpose of making it simple music to fall asleep to: drums in track 3 have rather sharp edges compared to anything one could deem 'ambient', the opening track employs slightly pounding lows, the sudden disappearance of the beat in track 4 leaves way for the background sound layers to grow just darker enough for such change to be noticeable, and if you missed the strange reversed whisper-like sounds scattered all around track 5, listen to it again. And then, again, there's the 'intershop' part. A closer inspection of this one makes it more of an oddity than what it already is, and if that's not enough proof of it being music to return to -the good kind of music, some would say-, i don't know what it is. Spellbinding, ghostly sci-fi sonics.

update: got my 2024 remaster copy, didnt include the hype sticker lol

i love this album. its so calming and 'clean' kind of 'sterile' in the sense that it feels very pure. it also feels like it comes from a time where the f-future/present could be thought of as Utopian or a future like that was even possible is what i mean..

                GOd bless

This is a beautiful production, relaxing, magical and hypnotizing, some tracks such as track 1 or 5 evoke sunny days and natural places, like forests from north Europe, while other tracks such as track 6 evoke quiet nights with stars in historical/medieval small cities. My favorite tracks are 1, 2, 5 and 6

This was a gem of a discovery, recommended by my local record shop based on my love of The Field. Much more than just minimalist drone, this has rich textures and is sonically engaging. I didn't get much this RSD, but I definitely picked this one up!

Dettinger’s discography is not the largest, but it is progressive in scope and sound. His first LP “Intershop” was also Kompakts 2nd CD release. This LP is a lovely album that lifts its listeners off the planet, into space and softly sets then down at some space port; where he or she can peruse alien merchandise.
Every track on the album is untitled and when experienced from start to end, really plays as a cohesive listening experience. The songs are primarily within the genre of “Ambient”, but hints of the Cologne “Minimal” sound surface.

The opening track is a gliding take off into beautiful trajectories.

For fans of Ambient, Minimal and possibly even IDM, I suggest this album for the after party, long road trips, or when you're entering cryosleep.

Minimal is a term that's been thrown about willy-nilly -- does Dettinger's _Intershop_ fall in that category? I think it leans more towards ambience than minimalism, although the quiet looped percussion and ever-growing layers of sound definitely relies on minimalist techniques. The warm rumblings of the second track settle easily onto your consciousness, while the hiss and crackle of the third track lulls you into submission before the sharp snap of the percussion kicks in. The long, ringing tones of the 5th track are heavenly, but Dettinger offsets that with a a click drum that helps ground the track. But that combination of rhythm and tone works better on the 6th track, where the swelling hums and whistles are accompanied by some nice syncopation. Oddly, though, the final track shoots straight into outer space -- it hints at some cool Detroit frequencies. An interesting track, certainly, but it feels out of place amongst the others. Still, _Intershop_ is plenty warm and inviting -- call it minimal if you must.
