Finally Yoko’s background vocals found a home. Great sound on this pressing. The Special’s are/were really special!

Edited 8 months agoVery good quality Reissue, sound really good !
...Ghost Town is a great classic Two Tone's tune with trombone part by Dick Cuthell on trumpet
Half-Speed Mastered at Abbey Road Studios -
Edited one year agosome interesting notes about this release:- although listed as a full-on Dammer's composition, ghost town borrows heavily from Prince Buster's "Seven Wonders of the World" specifically the all-star version, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_2Cs9Rc4Go) and more recently the original demo version of "Why" has been released which features a better toasting verse by Neville. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohhjNGyQWMw&ab_channel=FunBoyThree-Topic)
all in all though a fitting end to the first incarnation of the band, which over the next few years would be reformed in various lineup changes. -
Everyone knows this is one of the greatest singles ever released. Not just us but everyone involved with every inch and element in the 21st century manufacture of this product. Understandably! They're handling significant popular culture history. You can feel the love.
But hey, wait a minute!!...
If the industry can do it for THIS record then there shouldn't be any excuses for anyone else to not do the same with EVERY record. This ramping up of quality manufacture shouldn't be unique to certain releases. It's about simply putting in time, effort and care into making and handling a product without damage, without a blemish, that works and sounds great straight out from the inner sleeve (like....and this is NOT rose-coloured spectacles I'm wearing...in the good old days!!). When they want to, when they feel the need to, they CAN do it.

Edited one year agoThis record has lost none of its potency in 2024 the uk’s post Brexit shit show continues to decimate towns and city centres, boarding up signs everywhere and the rich elites still ransacking the public purse. Thatcher’s legacy…
B sides are just as good as the A side as well. -
-
Two kind of pict sleeves can be found for this release: one has glossy paper the other , one more common, is on matte paper.
-
One of the all-time classics. Of note, my 12" version has the labels on the wrong sides! ie, Ghost town is labelled, but the side has the 2 other songs, and vice-versa.
Also, for those wondering, this version of Ghost town is 6.02 -

Edited 2 years agoThe sound production of this 12” record is really outstanding. Bigger and much better than the 7” or CD versions.
