Miami Sound Machine – Primitive Love

Pretty annoyed that this is RED and not purple or orange.

Bizarre running order on MSM's second English language album. It was intentionally crafted to break the group with it's range of different singles; Conga (their signature Latin dance crossover smash), Bad Boy (pure pop), Words Get in the Way and Falling in Love (Uh-Oh) (AC ballads). However the band chose to put the harder but lesser dance tracks Body to Body and Primitive Love at the top of the album. It makes for a disted listen since it also concludes with the understated You Made a Fool of Me, Movies (their worst track) and the melodramatic Surrender Paradise. It's all over the map sonically but it's rarely dull. The run of songs from Words Get in the Way to Mucho Money is thrilling.

The four bonus tracks seem generous enough, but none are particularly good, certainly none are as good as the 12" mix of Falling in Love (Uh-Oh).

On my copy, Side A seems much more quiet than Side B. I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy in sound levels--maybe a pressing error? The album really comes alive on Side B, in which the instruments sound punchy and clear. There's some sibilance on track B3, but otherwise Gloria's vocals sound great on Side B. Playback is with an VM540ML cart.

Nice 80's pop album with several radio hits. Sound quality is very good since most of the music and instruments were played by a band and not electronic synth.

Words get in the way - under rated piece of music

Pretty cool album has trouble not sounding dated but hey, it is. Sounds great, too.

it's printed in Holland, but it's baiscally the European release, first catalogue number for Europe and not a dutch release
