Eagles – Desperado

I found this pressing to be dull and lacking in detail, which is unusual for this album. Steer clear, get a different pressing!

This is the version of Desperado to get.

Better than the OG, better than the MoFi One Step. This is the one. I promise. One of my favorite albums ever and this is the best version.

Don’t waste money on the expensive audiophile reissues of the first two Eagles albums. These UK first presses are cheap , easy to find and sound mind-blowing. Producer Glyn Johns did an incredible job. Cannot recommend highly enough

I've had this for years but never paid too much attention to it. But now that I have better equipment I finally listened to it again with calm and I can say that this is a surprisingly great reissue, especially considering its asking price.

As soon as you read "BG" initials in the deadwax you know this is almost a guarantee of a high-quality master, and I can confirm this is the case here.

Like most of Bernie Grundman's work, this pressing has a clear soundstage and great separation, great detail and clarity, with no distortion whatsoever (albeit I use a Microline stylus...). It also packs a mean punch (when hearing it loud of course) and in my opinion requires no EQ.

I believe this version should suffice to most people who are looking to have Desperado - which is a greatly underrated album, by the way - in their collection. I used to think these 2014 Eagles repressings were not very good (I even gave away my Hotel California after getting a Japanese pressing), but this one is definitely a keeper.

PS: it's funny that I am only now reading the older reviews which are quite negative. I did not experience anything like this. Bear in mind that at one point this entry was for both the BG and CB releases of the album, so maybe the negative reviews were related to the Chris Bellman mastering? Which still would be somewhat baffling since Chris is also a great professional. Anyway...

My original Monarch white label 1973 pressing (Side One run out - C ex; and Side Two run out - DD not listed in discogs) has outstanding sonics with well-defined instrumentation, vocal clarity, punchy bass and percussion, and a wide soundstage with great depth. This is one of the best sounding records I own.

I’ve been so used to listening to the Eagles’ greatest hits records, I have just recently been listening to their individual albums and it’s been a great experience. I like that they decided to do a “concept album” just to have fun. The cover pictures are awesome! The production sound is fantastic and my pressing shows it. Recommended!

Bought brand new sealed from Amazon for 34 CAD. Jacket is made from thin cardboard and feels a bit cheap (but it looks good). My copy is not perfectly flat nor well centered, but it’s not too bad. A very few tics here and there and 2-3 pops, but nothing too distracting overall. Sound is surprisingly good, especially at that price. Nice soundstage and separation, great presence of the vocals, especially on A5. Overall, it’s a pretty satisfying version for the price IMHO. 4.65 / 5

This is a pressing from Specialty Records and has a very quiet and clean sound.

EAGLES | DESPERADO (1973 | 2014 Reissue) Asylum RRM1-5068 EU pressing featuring "Log Door" media labels. One of the very few reissues that completely upstages our original early pressing. There is definitely no lack of punch in our reissued copy. This superb LP sounds spacious and open, as the best analog albums should. The pressing is flawless, flat and dead quiet. The vocals are dead-centre with imaging spread across the soundstage. Worth the price of ission for the atmospheric "Bitter Creek" alone IMHO, but there is a much more to enjoy here. They will need to prise this one from my cold dead hands. Audiophiles don't hesitate! - SONDEKNZ
