I'm not even sure what clipping is, and unsure re.distortion, but the really nasty thing here is that there's a gap between Process and Hilltop. Wretched.

This US press is translucent just like all early 80's New Order/Joy Division US pressings. There must be copies out there with a generic white sleeve as well. I checked popsike and saw several sold with the exact same white inner that I have. I barely played it in 35+ years. -
Can honestly say that I have never heard this album sound so good. The acoustic sections sound like you’re in the studio with the band, whilst the electro soundscapes ebb and flow with crystal clarity. Silent, centred vinyl seals the deal. Essential.

Sadly the sound quality may be perfect with mobile devices, but on home hifi you recognise how bad it is. There is sometimes clipping and because of minimizing the dynamic range on some points distortion.
So for this Album the a little bit thin sounding 1991 release or Vinyl seems until today the best choice. This ist sad because of the bonus on the disc. So not all is bad but an unpleasant complete run thought. -
While the original album is this beautiful mixture of upbeat melancholy, chance and error, the additional songs on this disc are mostly fillers documenting some of the creative process but for the most part remain a downright boring listen. "Dirty Disco II" audibly leans towards Cabaret Voltaire of that time and could very easily be mistaken as such, deceptively upbeat but getting nowhere in particular. It's "pre-mix" version fares even worse for that matter with further lyrical inanity. In retrospect, "Beating Heart" is reminiscent of A Popular History Of Signs' track "Crowds", as both tracks were done around the same time... Of the bonus tracks lot, only "Back To Wonder" benefits nicely along with the "restructure" version of their best known song from this era - "Looking From A Hilltop". Again, its additional "Megamix" version is unnecessary and torturously boring.

Stephen Morris's interpretation of looking from a hilltop is amazing and holds true to the depth of the megamix. -
Email [email protected] asking for the files. I did, and they sent me a link to the digital files - mp3 only unfortunately.

Came across a copy of this at the local Goodwill a few months back. It's beautiful and forward thinking and I've been listening to it nearly once a week ever since. No two tracks are the same. It's a record that is best enjoyed as a full serving; a complete masterpiece. I'm just sorry it took me so long to discover it.
