Background: In 1977, George Martin took the raw tapes of the Beatles' then-unreleased 1964 and 1965 concerts at the Hollywood Bowl and, using then available technology, polished them up for release. Which EMI did.
The album has long been deleted, though Capitol discovered the original 3-track raw recordings and gave these to George Martin's son Giles Martin in the mid-2010s. These were released in 2016 by Apple/Universal (to tie in with the documentary Eight Days a Week.)
The 2016 masters are very different, with Apple stating it was essentially a new album, it also has a slightly new title (Live at the Hollywood Bowl, rather than The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl), and a completely different sleeve. There are also four new tracks on the 2016 release.

I picked up my copy in Philippines, amazingly great condition considering the age. OBI and all inserts are complete and the vinyl itself basically seems like new. The jacket itself is a little weathered. Difficult to discern between surface noise versus audience noise on the recording. It is what it is. Not a bad thing to have around. -
The "STAO" prefix means this would be a single-disc gatefold sleeve. Sloppy work, pirates, ;) -

This is an excellent pressing and far superior to the record that was put out to accompany the Ron Howard film Eight Days A Week. The crowd screaming is an integral part of the performance and gives a real insight into what it was like at the height of Beatlemania. The later release is like watching a football match played in an empty stadium.

Edited one year agoThis is an amazing live album and the boys are here amazing and specialy Paul. This is an historic document about an amazing time and generaly rock and roll culture. You can feel the moment and the Beatles on its best. -

Got a brilliant clean copy of this live record and a ton of hits on here. Unfortunately, sound wise this is probably sub par, maybe the norm for for a 70s live album, I'm not sure. Anyway, all this record confirms for me is that women really really loved the Fab Four :) The high pitch squealing is sometimes rather overpowering. -

I have the identical release, with obi and including all inserts, but released as CD record. This is not the bootleg release with the extra tracks. Anyone else seen this? -
What a great concept for a live Beatles album. The redone version with the accompanying film (eight days a week) is rather clean compared to what they had to work with. If only they had recording equipment from the 2020s in 1964. Still love this album. Hope someday they can clean up the Shea Stadium recordings enough to release it as an official concert along with the full video footage. Even if the boys are flubbing around on stage it's still history I'd pay good money for.
