Notes
Their Satanic Majesties Request is the sixth British and eighth American studio album by London Records in the United States. Recording sessions saw the band experimenting widely with a psychedelic sound in the studio, incorporating unconventional instruments, sound effects, string arrangements, and African rhythms. The album's title is a play on the "Her Britannic Majesty requests and requires ..." text that appears inside a British port. It is the first Stones album to feature the same track listings in both its UK and US versions.

I have a copy of this record where the front cover has gone concave I guess due to the lenticular square, I’ve had it sandwiched between other records for a while now in an attempt to re-flatten it although I don’t think it’s done much, if anything. Anyone have any suggestions or any success in correcting this, or should I just leave it alone at the risk of possibly ruining the cover? Thanks!

All comments, complaints, and emotional outbursts have been spewed forth, so let me just add that in case you're worried, the SACD discs here will play on a normal CD player. I'm just surprised that "Child of the Moon", "We Love You" and "Dandelion" didn't find their way here as bonus tracks on one of the CDs. I also have the Sgt Pepper's lenticular box set and the boffins in the Beatles office saw fit to include "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" as extras on the mono mix CD... so, since they were done at around the same time as TSMR was recorded, why didn't these three singles get added to this package? I know why. The Stones don't really give a stuff. They'll just take your money and GTF outa Dodge.

I was lucky enough to find a NM 1C / 1C mono in a local shop. He did know what he had but charged a reasonable $50 which I gladly paid. I have a 1967 US mono that is VG and still sounds good as this mono pushes through noise except on quieter parts and between songs. The bass really thumps on this 1981 and with the clean vinyl and clearness of the sound itself it is an absolute joy to listen to. A completely different listening experience than the stereo which I also like. Two different takes on the same music and not one being good and the other not so. Nice to have both. This is my mono go to. The cover is a repress but that doesn’t bug me the least. -
This is a great album, one that's in top form in its original mono. This pressing satisfies the production quite well. This is a very three-dimensional pressing, with sounds such as the distorted on Citadel sounding as if they're a bullet ing right next to your ear, the strange psychedelic nightmare of See What Happens to encom you fully, and She's a Rainbow particular shines bright with this pressing. If you can find it in VG or above condition, it's a must.

The London Monarch 1st US stereo pressing (1V/1V) has exceptional sonics and is noticeably less shrill than the Decca UK 1st stereo pressing (5k/6k). Both 1st pressings have a wide stereo soundstage with the US London version winning by a whisker. The 2017 50th anniversary vinyl remaster has the best instrumental clarity but seems less spacious than the US and UK 1st pressings. The 1967 London Monarch pressing is my personal favorite. -
Edited 4 months agoQuite a nice pressing and mastering . Great clarity but a little emphasize on the highs as usual with some japan version . Translucent vinyl which be from JVC . The gatefold and printing quality is good . Some may say Their Satanic Majesties Request is not the best stones album but do give it a try if you like something Avant-garde rock and roll . Listen to ' Sing This All Together (See What Happens) ' .

While certainly not one of my favourite Stones albums, this copy is amazing. Just smokes.
If you find a clean copy don’t hesitate. -
Like my experiences with all 70s Rolling Stones boxed Decca’s they sound great and are a great value. No need to get an unboxed unless having OGs is important to you or in this case you want the original sleeve which is substantial in this case.

Any comments on this stereo pressing vs other OG pressings? Is this Pitman 1A / 1A superior to the Monarch or others? I obtained this Pitman 1A / 1A by chance cheaply years ago and it sounds great. Much better than the 50 year anniversary stereo but how about the other OGs? The mono is a different animal (which I also like a lot) so it doesn’t seem to make sense to compare with the mono. Apples to oranges. Some like apples and some like oranges. Anyone?
