does anyone know if this album (the 2018 remix that is) has ever been released invidually or is it a box set exclusive.
-
mine came with an EMI survey, ,this version has both too dizzy and the japanese version of girls, the only thing missing from this would be julie and the english version of girls which you get with the late 90s reissues, since we are never getting a new release of this album with too dizzy this is the best version to get and the nice photocard seals the deal, what a nice novelty it is.

Is it even worth it on vinyl? I mean I do like NLMD but sadly it is a victim of late 80s fix to cd length albums, because despite what the description says these are (In some cases) not the full versions of the songs, how they could add an extra song and a couple more minutes than other pressings is beyond me but sound quality might be affected -

Not a great record but not horrible. I feel these songs are left over thoughts from Labyrinth. -
Bowie ittedly has said it was a difficult time for his writing during the period of this 87 album, he was conflicted and struggle to make the album

After the rushed 'Tonight' successor to the blockbuster smash, 'Let's Dance' LP, Bowie releases the even more maligned 1987 'Never Let Me Down'. People, this is insane revisionism! For, in fact, all three titles sold better than any Bowie release at the time of their releases. This last major 1980's studio release is, in fact, aggressively good, even for Bowie!
So why the perpetual thumbs down for great songs like 'Day In Day Out', 'Zeroes', 'New York's In Love' & '87 & Cry', not to mention the lovely title track? One word, CRITICS... of course. And Bowie went along with the biased debated rhetoric.
For sure, this LP clearly shows a hodgepodge of vision as well as muscular songwriting. His lyrics still retain his ambiguous use of surrealism. His vocals are top-notch; at the top of his range on many tracks.
The problem for some may be the '80's overall, where acoustic instruments quickly transitioned to sequenced drumming & lots o' synthesizers! Personally, as someone who started with the glam-star' in the early 70's, I liked hearing Bowie's songwriting filtered through the new technology of the 1980's studio hardware. Dave Richards is the co-producer, as well having the enlistment of the great stable of musicians & programmers, including featured guitarist, Peter Frampton.
Name me another 1980's release which utilizes all that is in a David Bowie album? The 40 yr. old Bowie is giving it all that he's been up to that point; the 'Glass Spider' tour chuck full of Bowie! Vocally, the 'Spider' tour was amazingly strong. Just listen to the stunning finale's 'Time'; getting emotional just thinking of it.
I am an 80's Bowie lover. I liked all three studio releases, as well as the big song from Labirynth, 'As The World Falls Down'. Bowie fans, our 'rock god' is also a "pop-star" at stages of his career ( 'Fame'?), right from the start (the 1967 'Deram' collection).
In the 80's Bowie reached his widest audiences who, in turn, either left him soon after, or who looked back & kept forward, discovering so much great music, including this one... a 'Shining Star' every time! -

I think that this is a good David Bowie album from 1987. Some people think that this album together with Lets Dance and Tonight is too commercial, but I think that the album is time correct and sounds good. Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) works well here.
