Notes
Close To The Edge was released on 13 September 1972 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest progressive rock albums ever recorded. Inspired by Siddharta and their “state of mind” at the time, Yes’s 5th album is widely regarded as their masterpiece. The Gold-certified work remains a crowning achievement in the band’s illustrious career. It reached the Top Ten in both the U.K. and in the U.S., where it spent thirty-two weeks on the charts. Close To The Edge includes the epic standout ‘And You And I.’ Guitar World named it one of their ‘100 Greatest Guitar Albums of All Time.’ This flawless classic is also included in the book, ‘1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’.

The previous SW mix is better that this one.. in song 3 (lack of power just after the introduction and in song 2 voice it’s a bit far in the beginning …
-
Lots of distortion on Side A, and some on the inner grooves of Side B. Reading reviews, it seems to be a common problem in early Yes pressings. Maybe a better system gets better results with this.
-
100% agree with logdoghay, this pressing is the best you can get!
-
The audio quality is genuinely amazing, I’ve never heard this album sound anywhere near this good before

I own a copy with another variant, call it Matrix / Runout (Variant 4): 3 19133-2 SRC-07 M10S2
I don't have permission to edit releases, so hopefully someone else can add this to the release details in the Barcode and Other Identifiers section.

The source of CD4-3 "Heart Of The Sunrise" is incorrect. It was not recorded Live At The Rainbow, London, England on 16 December, 1972. This fantastic live rendition of Heart Of The Sunrise" was actually recorded at Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, North Carolina on 12 November, 1972.

Edited one month agoBought brand new sealed from Amazon for 31 CAD. Record is slightly warped but well centered. Pressing is not bad, almost dead silent, but there is terrible distortion on the final minutes of A1 and B2. Keyboards are sibilant as hell on A1 (more so than the Qobuz and my CD digital versions). Mixing is not bad either, vocals and drums are pretty clear and present without overshadowing the rest of the mix. Cymbal hits can sound a bit thin/splashy on some ages. Vocals and guitars are sounding more organic/tangible than the digital versions I’ve heard. Bass is visceral and deep. Soundstage, imaging and separation are great enough to be immersive. Not bad overall, especially for the price 4.55 / 5

I have the Japanese version of this, which is identical save for the OBI and some liner notes, and the live album sounds TERRIBLE. Not only is it too hot at times, there seems to be a massive gap in Close to The Edge, like there was an problem with the tape itself or how the tape was transferred? It just STOPS for a second before sounding it like's playing sped up, and then continues as normal. Anyone know what's going on there? I checked the liner notes, there's no mention of the source material having any errors.

Really clear and isolated. So happy to own this. After hearing these three songs countless times on beat vinyl or streamed mp3s (or off an iPod touch with a youtube-to-mp3.org rip, RIP), this just wipes any other listening experience. A little sad to retire my copy from when I was a little girl, but it served me well.
I was nervous because my Sticky Fingers issued about the same time sounds not it's best. Guess the original masters of it aren't great is all. The original masters paired with the MoFi finishing touches really sells this as the best version to date. Them strings in Siberian Khatru are nasty! MoFi wins again. -
Very deep and thick base, great vocals.
Probably due to the compression, the hights are quite limited. Especially the organ and keyboard "chorus" on side B.
