ABBA – Happy New Year • Andante, Andante

A video for "Happy New Year" was shot with single release in mind, but apparently the single was only released in a couple of countries in 1980/81 (Portugal, Argentina and Peru), apart from several promos issued in late 1980. The festive theme of the song has prompted belated releases in the form of a greeting card issue in 1989 and 'millennium' issues in late 1999. More -only releases took place in 2008/9. Even after so much time, the releases charted, making the Top 10 in many charts. A coloured vinyl 7" has become a tradition in Europe: a 7" has been released in silver in 2011, white in 2018 and 2024, clear in 2019, blue in 2020, gold in 2022 and clear/blue splattered in 2023. All feature "Felicidad" on B-side, except 2011 issue, "The Way Old Friends Do".

"Happy New Year" was mostly paired with "Andante, Andante". The tracks were also recorded in Spanish, to be included on the "Super Trouper" album in Spanish-speaking territories. The Spanish versions were also used for single releases in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru and El Salvador. In Argentina, both Spanish versions were released as singles. "Felicidad" b/w "Super Trouper" made #5. "Andante" was paired with "The Piper". A US promo 7" was released in 1981, with the Spanish "Andante" as A-side (b/w "Felicidad").

"Andante, Andante" was the A-side in Chile (b/w "The Way Old Friends Do"), South Africa (b/w "The Piper") and Ecuador. "The Way Old Friends Do" hasn't appeared on any other ABBA 7" - but it was a 'bonus track' on later CD singles (various titles).
