Faust – Faust

my copy of this is really crackly and noisy. is this a common problem with this record?

I don't own any other copies, but like other 70s and 80s Japanese copies, this copy has extremely sharp hard clear sound quality. The sharp hard clear Japanese copy is perfect for this album, perhaps because warm bass is not needed much in this album.

I bought this in a record shop in Norway because it looks really good. However, it sounds appalling and the whole thing seems dodgy. The ReR Megacorp HDCD from The Wümme Years box sounds infinitely better and is possibly the source for this. I have given this Lilith issue to a nephew who doesn't have a record player but appreciates the design.

This is a very, very good sounding pressing. I had a German OG bit it was so crackly that it was unlistenable. This one is super quiet and sounds amazing.

My understanding was that when Faust toured in the 90s in the U.S. this pressing was sold at their show. No way to that now but that's what I was told when I picked this up probably 20 years ago by the person that bought it that way. I having this conversation about it as I was curious to its origin not having a label etc. My $.02

I managed to find a great copy of this original Japanese pressing at 1,2,3,4 Go Records during a 30% off sale so I paid $70. It's in perfect shape with insert and obi. Vinyl looks and sounds unplayed. I will have to agree with the other comment left for this release. I have original Polydor clear vinyl versions. Recommended clear vinyl versions. And even one of the black vinyl version. Nothing sounds as good as this version. This is the one you need if you've always wondered what this record sounds like without all the pops and noise associated with every release of this record....except for this Japanese pressing. Beautiful to hear!

I have to agree about all the original clear vinyl editions being very noisy...and I have a few. So a long time ago I went searching for this original black vinyl version just to have a better sounding pressing. I purchased one only to find out it is on a dark red vinyl! It has the silver Polydor labels but the vinyl is a dark red. Something like those early Beatles Japanese vinyl releases. Does anyone know anything about this? It doesn't look like it was bootlegged (pirated). Would be great if anyone had any input.

If anyone has a spare cover for this, I'd be happy to purchase it.

I obtained this (and the similar copy of 'Faust' https://www.discogs.sie.com/release/23656610-Faust-So-Far) from an old friend who worked at Recommended Records briefly and whose first job was to place the pressings of the first two Faust re-issues in their respective sleeves.. He came across these anomalies and asked about them and was told they were the test pressings so don't put those in the sleeves! At the end of the day he was told he could have copies for himself and he chose these ones.. He told me they were the only copies of this kind that he encountered, so I would really like to know if anyone knows of any other copies out there, or indeed any other information about them. I've always been puzzled as to why the older labels were seemingly deliberately placed with the printed information on display rather than reversed as would be the normal practice on white label pressings.. All highly unusual and to think they could have easily ended up inside the sleeves and sent out to some unsuspecting buyer along with the standard copies or the record!

does anyone know the difference between this version and the one attached below? these listings look identical but the barcode sticker on my copy doesn’t look like that of the other one, not sure if that counts tho.
