Filter King is king. That is all you need to know.
As the years roll on, a lot of this sound is beginning to date. But the industrial roll of that track will never get old. -

My left and right ear had a serious quarrel towards the end of the A side, and I had to stand between them! -

This EP will go down with the best of 'em in my memory, if only for the smashing Rushed. I have never heard Carl command dance floors with such ease and skill as here - this is actually him dropping a tune with the clear intention of ripping clubs apart. Just listen to this, and hear for yourself how everythying falls in place just the way you want it to. Cracking percussion, those rewind effects in the backgrounds, a deep bass. Eight minutes of no-nonsense Detroit funk groove, nothing less. This is just perfect. Having said that, little else meets the standards set by the opener.
I like the longer mix of Sub Seducer, released on PE 65284-1 quite a few years later. Sound On Sound is a brief interlude with no practical use or purpose, but it could have been much more intricate and complete if some further sound patterns were adequately placed after the melody fades out. Poi Et Pas is interesting to a certain point, with those booming broken beats and throbbing bass line, but it eventually ventures too far off radar, losing focus and the initial charm it had. I have the same feeling about the rest of the B side as well. None of it is particularly bad, but Rushed dominates this entire release with such immense confidence and punch, it is really hard to recover from its effect by the time the needle hits the run out groove of the B side. Filter King is the only number which attempts at recreating the magic and the hypnotizing effect Rushed has, and while it isn't bad (my second favorite here), things just don't end up as fine as they did on Rushed... Other then that, it's a fine piece of music, groovy with a lot of breaks, leaving you with plenty of time and space to play around with your equipment. Trust me here: Rushed is the type of an electronic music track which can drive any crowd into a frenzy, be it a house, tech house or a pure techno set, it is just one of those gems which stamps smiles on your face.
