Mastodon – Hushed And Grim

My double black vinyl sounds good; decent depth in the soundstage with drums set back. Mids are a little lacking in tonal colour, but refined otherwise. Good album.

It sounds incredible and really the only complaint I have is the inner sleeve situation, its just more plastic to toss. The album itself is amazing and Eyes of the Serpents is just amazing.

Misprints aside.. gatefold is alright, there's lined sleeves for the records, which are 170g and reasonably flat.

Sound / pressing quality is pretty good -
have to turn it up a bit (not just because the music rocks, but because it's a bit on the quiet side).
Hardly any pops and clicks, thought that the voice is probably a bit low on this, and highs in general a bit mushy maybe - but actually A/B'd with a high-res digital version, and it's like that there as well. The vinyl sounds a bit "fuller", as you'd expect. It's not one of the best sounding LP's I own, but it's definitely solid.

Too much compression, somebody has to tell them to stop this madness. And I don't care if it's a misprint, the sound is what we buy vinyl for and it's bad.

A shame the 2xCD releases are coming out in paper cases. A deal breaker for me.

This pressing sounds truly awful.
I put it down to my setup being a little lower budget, but I’ve since upgraded every aspect and it still sounds muffled, thin, and compressed.
I wonder if the clear variant is any better?

I love the album, it gets 5 stars, but this pressing sounds like it came directly from the CD and as a result is a pretty low fidelity.

Just a shame that this great album comes in a 2xCD poor paper card box.
