Nice album to just relax too. The sound on the pressing, at least on my system, is clear, dynamic and punchy. Great pressing.

Like most of these 2002 grennsleeves reissues, original stamper matrixes were used here. Great sounding records !

There are a lot of irrate coments about the lack of Scientists image and name.
I would prefer the 'original' artist & art myself, however the fact is- Scientist does not own these recording , he never did, and probably never will. He is a mixer, and some folk can't fathom what that means.
Imagine Phil Spector claiming the Beatles lp he did should have his name and face on the cover, and he should own the copyright and collected a percentage of profits for life!
Does a picture framer suddenly get rights to the artwork framed ?
Does your hairdresser suddenly own your hair after a haircut?
Scientist was paid a fee for his work as usual. He did not produce these tracks, he did not write or play them. He didn't compile the tracks, nor licence the songs.
The only claim here is what G'sleeves should contribute for using his image and name for marketing.
The producer owns the tunes along with the song writers (if still applicable) . Even the musician have no claim if paid a session fee.
Often the producers will contribute something more if hits result, or more session work will follow.
The ultimate stars of this series of lps are THE ROOTS RADICS band.
Its sad that an agreement couldnt have been reached, yet the vinyl re-issues are timely and excellent , especially with the vocal counterparts.
The CDs are brickwalled, and lack the dynamic range of the vinyl pressings or older CD versions (pre remaster editions). -
"It's a long and tedious tale but take it from me - there are no heroes or villains and taking Scientist's name off the Greensleeves albums was a legal requirement due to Scientist's one (and only) successful court case. That French ruling was why the official albums weren't available for many years and in fact only the flooding of the record shops with bootleg copies supposed to originate in Russia or Italy forced VP into a strategy to protect their copyright - and my copyright in the artwork for the six Scientist albums released by Greensleeves. I have total respect for Scientist as a mix maestro and would be happy to design covers for him - same way as I worked on the Sublime and Heavy Manners covers that feature skills. Nothing but respect for the dubmaster Hopeton / Overton Browne from me."
This statement is from Tony McDermott, the artist of the cover. -

One of the worst and disrespectful reissues ever done in the history of reissues ... two thumbs down!
-
Edited 7 years agoif not illegal, it's disrespectful as hell. changing the character that looks like scientist in all the cover art is just wrong. DON'T THIS BS
-
It's better to pirate this stuff than to the crook "producers" at green sleeves. Don't be fooled, Linval and Junjo only own the rights but did not write the music.
-
Edited 8 years agoThese 2016 reissues with the artist's name (Scientist) changed to the producer's name "presents" are apparently the result of the 2005 court battle that Scientist fought and lost against Greensleeves. However unfair that outcome may have been, these are official releases by the legal owner of the works who have repackaged and credited them to protect themselves from future claims by the remix engineer.
