Notes
Powerslave is the fifth studio album by the English heavy metal band EMI in Europe and its sister label Capitol Records in North America. A remastered version was released by Sanctuary/Columbia Records in the US in 2002.
It is notable for its Ancient Egyptian theme displayed in the cover artwork, lifted from the title track, which was carried over to the album's ing tour. "The World Slavery Tour" began in Warsaw, Poland on 9 August 1984 – and is widely regarded as being the band's longest and most arduous to date – and also led to the live album Live After Death.
The release also contains a musical re-telling of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", which uses pieces of the original poem as lyrics. At 13 minutes and 45 seconds in length, it was Iron Maiden's longest song for over 30 years, until it was sured by the 18-minute "Empire of the Clouds" from the 2015 album, The Book of Souls.
Powerslave is also notable as being the band's first album to feature the same personnel as their previous studio release. This lineup would remain intact for two further studio releases. Also, it is their last album to date to feature an instrumental piece.
"2 Minutes to Midnight" and "Aces High" were released as singles. In 2017, it was ranked 38th at Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".

This is an excellent pressing of one of the greatest metal albums of all time. This is Iron Maiden at their peak and also peak production values. This record is mixed perfectly with amazing dynamics. I also have the 2015 remaster and it’s dull and compressed compared to this. Highly recommend you find an original of Powerslave to hear it in all its energetic and dynamic glory at full volume. -
I put in a review back on Nov 21st last year. I wanted to revisit here after obtaining an original 1984 Carrolton press. I've listened to both to compare. This one's volume isn't actually too much quieter. It's fairly close. It is thicker and beefier in the low end. Highs are rolled back a bit. The original has more crispness and clarity. While this version here looks utterly beautiful, I'm giving the overall nod to the original.

Just acquired a really clean copy of this. My first time playing an original pressing... I have a 40th Anniversary (Zoetrope) copy of this and had to compare the two. The 40th is thick and powerful. This original is cleaner, more clear, and "crisp". While the lenticular looks absolutely cool, I'll play this original over the 40th. It's absolutely terrific. -
Just picked this up in a sale and listening to side 1 now.
Whilst there is noise in between each track (like a wind blowing) the songs themselves sound good. There’s plenty of bass and clarity of instruments. Not the greatest pressing but not the worst -

I think this release sounds very good, clear and have a good soundstage. I cannt compare with the original pressing, as I do not have it.

Edited one month agoAw man… I had this reissue sitting on the shelf unopened for awhile, I happened to find an OG Canadian version today and so listened to that first and it sounded absolutely incredible and dynamic, one of the best in my collection. Put this reissue on right after listening to that and what a let down. Very noticeable compression and the eq is darker and sounded like a blanket was thrown over what I had just been listening to. I know some of these reissues sound great, the first Iron Maiden album in particular I thought sounded amazing, and the Somewhere in Time reissue was excellent too. This didn’t do it for me. I’m not saying this is bad by any means, vinyl is flat, clean, and quiet. If this is your only copy you’ll be just fine. Just misses the dynamics and excitement of the original. But it’s pretty hard to beat the original which is in my opinion one of the best metal albums ever recorded.

Edited 2 months agoThe album artwork and the picture disc itself looks fantastic, but the sound quality not so much.

Shook the damn house with my copy! Amazing pressing, amazing mastering. Just buy it and enjoy it loud. You won’t be disappointed! Kicks ass from start to finish. Period.
