Primus – Suck On This

An extremely rare tape. I'd venture to say even rarer than the vinyl. Whilst that one is scarce, it does show up for sale every now and then. This tape however? Not a copy on sight for several years. No information regarding quantities, but it must have been extremely limited.

When I first picked up my copy at a local shop, I was worried due to reviews and thought they had tried to frizzle fry-style jam the album on a pressing size that makes it sound like dog-ass, but it actually wasn't that compacted or muddy at all. It had a few blemishes here and there but it was good quality with a great color choice. 92/100 marks.

The record sounded great, but it seems like I got a bad copy. There was crackling throughout most the songs, not terribly glaring but noticeable. Songs like Pressman and Harold of the Rocks expecially in the quieter segments had crackling which was upsetting. Even after a rinse, nothing much changed. Though, it's mighty powerful and again sounded great.

Considering this was recorded on an 8-track and mixed on Hi-fi VHS, this sucks (Primus speak). The sound quality is honestly surprising for a debut live. Nice to hear early versions of then never-heard songs, and Rush's YYZ intro is great to hear them playing. The blue vinyl is a great addition as well, not a bad pressing. Did replace the inner sleeve with an anti-static however, as the record was extremely tight-packed inside it.

I was worried when buying this, because of the reviews. No need to overthink it though, the release is absolutely fine.

This is not the first pressing of 1000. This is from the second run of these records. The first pressing can be seen here with the much larger Prawn Song label.

This is a common mistake, but an important distinction.

This inner label is the original pressing. Only 1000 were pressed. The inner label with a half sized Prawn Song logo is the second run.

Good sound but what an horrible artwork reproduction.. no shame

Mine is a misspress having side A label on both sides. Really tight original printed inner sleeve, affected couple light scratches after pulling record out first time, changed it rightaway to polylined sleeve. Sounds fine, not the top deep quality but kicking
