Kreator – Extreme Aggression

Nice booklet but thin sounding remaster. Not recommended at all.

Why it is described as 2LP? It has one main album LP and 2 live LPs.

I'm looking to buy the original inner sleeve for this version. Any US sellers?

Kreator’s best album from the early years

When main-man Mille Petrozza and drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil released Kreator’s first album in 1985 (along with their original bassist Rob Fioretti), Mille was only 17 years-old. EXTREME AGGRESSION came out four years later in 1989 after three full-lengths and a couple EPs. It was their first release on a major label (Epic) and their best album yet IMHO. It’s reminiscent of Bathory’s output in 1987-1988, particularly the vocals, just more note-dense and speedier.

While it’s dynamic and aggressive late 80’s thrash, it’s not boringly one-dimensional like, say, Agony’s THE FIRST DEFIANCE from the previous year. Mille & Co. wisely add interesting bits to even the thrashiest, most primal songs. A good example is the creative groove mid-section of “Betrayer” and corresponding lead solo.

My favorite track is probably the fifth one, “Some Pain Will Last,” precisely because it strays from the same-old, same-old. It also happens to be the longest track by far, running 5:35. It showed that Kreator was more than just mindless 80’s thrash.

The nine tracks clock-in at just over 37 minutes and so doesn’t overstay its welcome.

GRADE: B+/A-

I agree. This is a top notch production. I know Kreator since they released Coma of Souls. Followed everything after, never checked the older albums because they didn't sound as nicely produced. But they have always been an excellent band. Hearing them play that older material live clarifies how good it was. I didn't even know they could do such top notch live recordings at that time. And of course Extreme Aggression itself also sounds great now with the remastering. Top quality release!

I got a version with black center labels and white letters (instead of red). This is the only difference to this version. Anyone knows if this needs a new entry here?
