Edited 17 days agoAfter 3 months, I finally compared this to a Brazilian ORG copy I got a couple of months ago. I had originally ordered this one just for the cover, since my OG came with a sleeve completely torn, but the record was in really good shape.
Anyway, I must it I am positively impressed by this SR version, I was definitely not expecting such level of detail and presence.
Ofc the OG is better, slightly detailed and warmer. But this is a really great alternative, there's a lot of presence, a lot of clarity, good separation. The main flaw is some amount of hissing on higher pitch notes (mainly vocals).
Anyway it's really great as much of a bootleg/unofficial version this might be - I have never heard the Polysom reissue from some years ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if this SR pressing sounded better, knowing how Polysom is capable of horrible pressings of marvellous albums.
So if you're hesitating and cannot spend top dollar on a OG, just go for this one.
And I'm the annoying audiophile type. -
I don't have another vinyl copy to compare to, but despite the inferior cover art, this is a great sounding release on relatively quiet vinyl for the era.

I don’t want to overstep as I don’t own an original copy. But damn… this is far, FAR better than digitals and cd versions I’ve heard? Only gripe is the sleeve arrived with a minor dent in the top from ‘record bouncing in transit’ - the system at my folks place is incredible, and this record doesn’t seem to lose any magic much like the other Jorge Ben I own. Subtleties, shimmers, whispers, rolling of letters, small taps - it’s all there - and clean as a button. No residue, pops or hissing. Absolute Bliss. Fantastic Reissue, official or potentially not. <3
Hopefully whoever has an original can compare. Wether that makes me look like a mug or not, we’ll see. <3 -

Edited 4 months agoThis vinyl is extremely thin ; it weighs 103 gms compared to a Dynflex which is 116 gms. The sound is sensational on this! I also have the 2010 Polysom reissue which is no slouch , but in comparison this '85 press has much more presence and soul to it. Livelier, more robust and dynamic! My copy does unfortunately have an issue wherethe grooves kind of run into each other for about four seconds leading in to the second track on side one . I believe this anomaly is referred to as
"kissing grooves" ? It yields a sonic glitchiness , sounds are blurry but just for a few seconds. I am curious if others experienced this .
Despite this it's a gorgeous sounding pressing. Very pleased to have this! Got a great deal on it ! -

I am looking for a spare cover, if anyone has that… I bought an AMAZINGLY well kept OG for peanuts, but the front sleeve is missing. If anyone got a spare cover, doesn't matter what edition it is…

These original Brazilian pressings are fantastic!! The mids are so transparent which is a critical component when listening to this lp. Wide soundstage that has depth. 9/10
