Thirsty Ear
Profile: |
Established in the late 70s as an independent marketing company, Thirsty Ear pioneered the concept of specialized marketing to the yet-unnamed alternative music world in the U.S. As such, Thirsty Ear was hired to implement campaigns in this new area for virtually every major label, working with such now-legendary artists as David Bowie, The Talking Heads and The Police, among many others. |

Thirsty Ear is a really interesting label, not only backing more "traditional" styles of jazz, but also pushing the boundries of what people consider to be jazz. The most notable addition to this area is The Blue Series Continuum, curated by jazz piano master, Matthew Shipp. In the past, albums in The Blue Series have paired up jazz maestros with experimental hip-hop artists and groups, for sampling and live sessions. I look forward to see how they continue to challenge preconcieved notions of where jazz ends, and anything else begins.
