KAO Infosystems Company was a US-American subsidiary of Japanese KAO Optical Products is usually found named in the matrix of discs manufactured at one of the below-listed facilities.
Manufacturing plants included:
- a floppy disk and CD-ROM manufacturing plant in Plymouth, MA. Formerly operated by Sentinel Technologies in Hyannis, acquired by Kao Corporation in 1988 and relocated to Plymouth in 1989. Announced in April 1998 that this plant was for closure in June with its equipment transferred to other KAO facilities.
- a floppy disk and CD manufacturing plant in Arnprior Canada. Formerly known as KAO-Didak; renamed KAO Infosystems Canada in 1993.
- an audio cassette and CD manufacturing plant in Lancaster, PA. Formerly known as American Helix until KAO Infosystems Company acquired American Helix Technology Corporation in 1993
- an audio cassette, CD, and CD-ROM manufacturing plant in Fremont, CA. Opened in April 1994.
- a software manufacturing plant in Bothell, WA. Acquired from Microsoft in 1996; closed in the second half of 1998.
In December 1998, KAO Corporation sold KAO Infosystems Company to Zomax Optical Media, Inc. (Zomax Optical). The assets and facilities transferred to Zomax included a call center in San Ramon, CA, the 22-line CD/DVD manufacturing, packaging and distribution facility in Fremont, CA, and the six-line CD manufacturing, packaging and distribution facility in Arnprior, Canada.
