Sanyo Japan

Profile:

Japanese CD manufacturer.
For releases not manufactured in Japan which credit "Sanyo", please consider the Sanyo, U.S.A..
Sanyo Japan is an imprint of Sanyo, a major electronics company and member of the Fortune 500 whose headquarters is located in Moriguchi, Osaka Prefecture (大阪府守口), Japan.
One CD manufacturing/pressing plant is known to have existed in Anpachi-gun, Gifu Prefecture (岐阜県安八郡), which started operations in the second half of 1983.

On June 1, 1993, this plant -- along with Sanyo's CD manufacturing and karaoke-related business -- was spun off into Sanyo Mavic-Media Co., Ltd..

Sanyo Japan (as well as subsequent Sanyo Mavic-Media Co., Ltd.) pressings can be identified by the following means:
1. The matrix font on all Sanyo pressings is designed with refractive properties that make the width of the characters appear to vary based on the angle at which they are viewed. The design appears to be unique to Sanyo.
2. "MANUFACTURED BY SANYO JAPAN", or "MANUFACTURED BY SANYO" present in the matrix of discs made in Japan. Some -- especially 90s -- discs omit this entirely, or abbreviate it down to "SA".
3. As Sanyo Mavic-Media Co., Ltd.). These codes, seeing as they are sequential, can be entered in the companies section. The following section will explain how to decode these:

Type 1 (a theoretical example being 50926F):
Digit 1: the year the glass master was produced (1983 to 1986),
Digits 2 and 3: the month the glass master was produced (01 = January to 12 = December).
Digits 4 and 5: the day the glass master was produced (01 to 31).
Digit 6: unknown (might have been the order of daily production for the LBR (laser beam reader), as is speculated with Sanyo, U.S.A.).

Type 2 (a theoretical example being GBA11D):
Digit 1: an identifier of the LBR (laser beam reader) used to manufacture the glass master.
Digit 2: the year the glass master was produced. It can either be a digit (1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, or 1990) or a letter (A = 1990, B = 1991 up to D = 1993).
Digit 3: the month the glass master was produced (1 = January to 9 = September, A = October, B = November, C = December).
Digits 4 and 5: the day the glass master was produced (01 to 31).
Digit 6: unknown (might have been the order of daily production for the LBR (laser beam reader), as is speculated with Sanyo, U.S.A.).
