Bijou Studios was located in a former silent movie theatre (The Bijou, built in 1920) at 1518 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Musician Alan Dickson bought it in the early 1970's (turning it into the "Hollywood Bijou Studio"). Stevie Wonder (one of the first artists to work there) wrote and rehearsed his LP "Songs in the Key of Life" while the studio control room was still under construction. The building's two-story brick exterior was left to look like an abandoned structure in an effort to hide the fact that it was a recording facility (according to studio engineer Grandmaster Recorders." Dickson died in 2016 and in early May, 2017 his family sold the property to a developer who intends upon turning it into restaurants or a lounge. For more information see the Los Angeles Times article by Roger Vincent dated May 12, 2017.
