Founded by Leif Mases to give it a unique sound, that in some respects resembled a Neve.
In 1984, Stig Anderson bought out his partners in the company. Six months later, he sold the studio to his daughter Lennart Östlund.

Staff known to have worked there includes:
- Leif Mases mastering engineer
- Göran Stelin mastering and recording engineer

The studio closed down on 1 May 2004 and relocated in 2007, when it took over the classic Ingrid Studios in 2011 under a new ownership). In the fall of 2015 business was scaled down and the equipment is currently packed in moving boxes at the home of Lennart Östlund, who still runs Polar Studios as a company.
