SteepleChase

Profile:

Danish jazz label; also appears as "SteepleChase Records".
Label Code: LC 3064 / LC 03064
Founded in 1972 by jazz enthusiast Jimmy Raney.
Nils Winther recorded and produced most of the labels releases.

Be aware that some of the CD repressings are actually CDrs, they are unmarked as such. The US distributor said that the owner is pressing small batches of CDrs for older, slower selling titles, such as Tete Montoliu - Music For Perla. So a seller who has a sealed copy has no way of knowing what is inside.

I've had some issues with the recent (2012-2020) reissues on this label. Records often came slightly warped or side B was pressed a little offcenter (not audible-at least to me, but definitely visual). The soundquality is really nice, but so are the originals from steeple chase. Great Jazz titles! If you can find a cheap original press in good condition, I would prefer it to the "audiophile" (180gr.) reissues.
