Hats off to Naxos and its Guitar Collection series! Under the guidance of the magnificent guitarist, Norbert Kraft and his partner, Bonnie Silver, as co-producer, they have been responsible for creating possibly the world's largest catalogue of recordings for classical guitar which continues to grow at the time of this review. This is a magnificent achievement for which I and no doubt many others are truly grateful for. The collection itself will introduce you to composers and recitalists of the highest standards. Amongst the collection you will also find complete works of important composers from the 19th and 20th centuries along with music indigenous to countries where the guitar "is an integral part of the cultural fabric".
Besides being a large audible reference point for the instrument and its composers and recitalists, the production values are by and large second to none with many of the recordings using St John Chrysostom Church in Canada as the preferred location to capture the essence of the instrument and performer for their recordings. As with pretty much all Naxos' releases you also get informative booklet notes about the composers, their compositions and the recitalists.
Anyone with a fondness for the guitar should check this series out.
