Edited 3 years agoWARNING: Where's "Goats Head Soup" IS NOT released on this series!!!! your collection will be INCOMPLETE!
Who's the responsible of that stupid idea? only because there's a deluxe edition don't means that we want it. -
I purchased this collection as it is mastered from the DSD British Master analog tapes and I wanted to have the few albums that did not get released in the Platinum SHM series that came out between 2013 starting with Exile On Main Street” and ended in 2014 with “Dirty Work.” These where released in individual boxes housing the CD and cover. I then added the Platinum SHM copies of “Steel Wheels” and “Flashpoint!”
I have two of the 2006 Box Sets complete with the Disk Union OBI that was given out as a gift for purchasing the entire series. I have the Second and Third ABKCO series that I purchased when we visited Japan in 2006. I bought them from Disk Union prior to getting there through a friend whom I went to college with. I wasn’t particularly interested in the first box set at the time as a lot of the material is in mono. However, I purchased these two Box Sets because they where also transfers from the analog master tapes as well. Their sound resolution is 24Bit/172kHz, so they sound really good!
I purchased this series as it is also a Hi Resolution version and they are rendered from the 2011 British Master Analog Tapes from DSD. I have not listen to them all yet, as I just received these two days ago. So I’m interested in comparing the DSD mastered copy to the Platinum SHM version of the same titles. It’s kind of crazy to have several different copies of the same title Japanese CD.
I absolutely love Donald Fagen’s “The Nightfly” and have about 7 or so different formats of this incredible album. I purchased the 2017 Japanese Mini LP CD version (WPCR-17866) and it is transferred from DSD Master Analog Tapes as well and of the multiple versions and formats of this one sounds the best of them all! I’m hoping that this turns out to be the case with this series of The Rolling Stones as well!
I have a listening room and a set up to play MQA audio. So far it’s been a little hit and miss with some of the titles. For instance, I bought a couple of the Queen titles and they don’t sound nearly as good as the similar Platinum SHM version that came out around the same time as The Rolling Stones Platinum SHM series. It starts with their first album and ends with “News Of The World.” All of the Platinum SHM versions I put up against the two Queen MQA version sounded far better than the MQA release. I then read that the MQA version of some of Queen’s releases didn’t have the capability to be rendered in the 24Bit/352.8kHz resolution. Several of the first of the MQA releases where equivalent to their Platinum SHM counterpart. The best copies I’ve purchased so far are Blondie - Greatest Hits, The Jam - Snap, and J.J. Cale - Special Edition which hasn’t been added yet as a release.
The High Resolution of these varios recordings is absolutely life changing as far as music goes. If you are like myself and would give up television for music, you will never want to listen to iTunes or even regular CDs as they are generally 16Bit/44kHz. Yes, it’s a lot of numbers flying around here, but they make a huge difference in the sound quality and the program I’m using currently on my Laptop will also up convert 16Bit/44kHz to 24Bit/96kHz. It will also play the SACD layer of any SACD back in stereo and in High Resolution as well. The most important thing is a good DAC and you’ll wonder how you’ve ever done without these components. My turntable also runs through my DAC and it makes my vinyl sound incredible.
