Location Recording Service

Profile:

Mixing, mastering and recording studio based in Burbank, California, USA, owned by Steve Guy and Allen J. Fraiberg. It was founded as a custom label in 1959 with a mobile recording studio. By 1970, it had developed into a full-fledged studio specialized in disc mastering. By the end of the 1970's it was the largest independent cutting facility in Western America with an annual output of approximately 18,000 sides. It operated through the late 90s.

LRS had three vinyl mastering studios (studios A, B and C), equipped with Scully and Neumann (incl. a VMS70) lathes, and one recording studio (Studio 4), 16-track before 1978 and 24-track since. Studio B later also housed the DCC and CD mastering. Additionally the studio had its own electronics development lab and operated, in a separate building, a complete sleeve and label printing and fabrication plant.

Studio managers: Michael Verdick (after 1979).
Engineers known to have worked here: Michael Verdick, Stewart Hillner.
