A lot of the 4 Jazz Lps on one double CD releases were bloody awful, sucked all the joy out of listening - I could have produced better CDs on my PC by ing, boosting the levels and burning onto a CD. I can only assume that they upped their game after a while - hence the fact they are still in business. So i'd assume Steve below has bought stuff since they improved.

Complete poppycock! I have many Avid Cd's and although I listen carefully through Sennheiser 820's, I've never heard any "sizzle" on the ones I have and to suggest the material is "destroyed" is an exaggeration, putting it mildly. Most of their releases are simple budget reissues of older CD masters, usually long out of print. Yes, there might be the odd compromise but at the steal of a price they are sold for, you can't really complain. In most cases it's the Avid or nothing!

I echo the other commentator. The Avid releases sound weird with the life, energy and soul of the music stripped away during their "Digital remastered for probably the finest ever sound quality" process! Great material destroyed...seek out alternative sources.

Edited 6 years agoOne of the worst grey market public domain labels out there. Most of their releases are "classic album compilations" (3 to 4 albums from a well-known jazz artist on 2CD set). I've had approximately 5 of these compilations, which all sounded awful. Each compilation had lots of audible sizzle. It sounded like tracks were sourced from low quality mp3 files. Many of their classic album sets are incomplete. In these cases some original album tracks are omitted due to limitations of CD capacity. Avoid!
