Southern Records

Probably worth avoiding buying new copies of anything on Southern now, as the label has been embroiled in various legal disputes with current and former artists for several years at this point. It took multiple years of wrangling for Karate to reclaim the rights to their masters (finally paving the way for a reissue campaign by The Numero Group & PolyVinyl), and other groups who had music released on the label (among the most prominent being Nomeansno) are still in ongoing disputes for similar issues. Numerous artists accused the label of failing to pay them any royalties whatsoever, and in response the label has closed its Discogs and Bandcamp selling platforms.

Basically it looks like there's a lot of underhanded, bad-faith activities going on at Southern these days, and my advice would be to the artists in their attempts to regain access to their own recordings & avoid lining Southern's pockets.

Reissue all Karate albums already Southern Records, come on !!!

Southern Records have for a while been some of the best people to deal with, whether it's a simply private query or details on the label's history. Southern are an amazing group of people.
