Diskxpress

Diskxpress was an English optical disc manufacturing company with headquarters in London and a manufacturing plant in Gloucestershire. The company was active from as early as the 1980s as a distributor, but later moved on to manufacture of diskettes, CD, DVD, and CD cards.

Diskxpress may be identified in one of the following situations:
· 'Diskxpress' or 'DXP' found in the disc matrix
· The combination of a 5-digit numerical matrix number, NNNNN, and mould SID code IFPI 8Y**
In both case, please use the Pressed By role in LCCN. The NNNNN matrix number can be entered as catalogue# for Diskxpress.
The NNNNN matrix number may be in the format 5NNNN (until 1997) or 0NNNN (from 1996-97 onwards).

The 0NNNN matrix number series continued until around 2002, after which it seems to have ceased, although IFPI 8Y** mould SID codes are occasionally found on some CDs manufactured after this time - possibly as the equipment was acquired by other manufacturing plants after Diskxpress ceased operations. For this reason, Diskxpress should not be identified by the presence of mould SID code IFPI 8Y** alone without its 5-digit matrix number.

It appears that Diskxpress never manufactured glass masters in-house, but sourced these externally. The glass master origin can usually be derived from the first initial of the manufacturer and mastering SID code:
· E + IFPI L041/L042 = EMI Swindon
· F or FT + IFPI LD81 = FSV (1999-onwards)
· I or IM + IFPI L055/L056 = Independent Masters Ltd
· K + IFPI L98* = KAO Ireland
· N + IFPI L12* = Nimbus
· O or OMD + IFPI LA41 = OMD (4)
· P + IFPI L081/L082 = PhonoComp

When an additional initial 'SP' is found in the matrix (often combined with the glass master ID as 'SPE,' 'SPN,' etc.), this indicates that the manufacturing was brokered by Sound Performance, which can be given a Manufactured By role in LCCN.
