Velvet De Venezuela S.A.

Profile:

Venezuelan record company. For the label, see Velvet (2).

Company established in Venezuela in 1960 by José Pagé, whose initial success stemmed from its stable of local artists. The company ran a recording studio and a manufacturing plant for records and cassettes, later adding CD manufacturing to its capabilities. In the mid-1990s, growing piracy caused the company almost to collapse. The company survived and now continues by reissuing and remastering of its back catalogue.
