Sky Records

Profile:

German label
Label Code: LC 4435 / LC 04435
Founded in Hamburg in 1975 by Brain, a label that he had co-founded. Sky focused on a similar roster of electronic, ambient, Krautrock and progressive rock to Brain, including releasing material by Cluster and other Brain related artists, plus many new groups and exclusive discoveries. In later years the label concentrated mostly on instrumental and new age music.
The very last Sky new release came out in 2000. Last represses known were in 2003. Since the label ceased many reissues have appeared on: Sireena Records often with the original Sky label design.

What an outstanding label. If I were alive and aware of this label in the late 70's, I would have probably gone to Hamburg to beg Günter Körber for a job! With Conny Plank in the production chair for several label releases, quality is guaranteed.

If you are new to the label, Brian Eno's collaborations with Cluster's Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius are a great introduction to the Sky Records sound. They also worked together on Eno's song By This River which appeared on the album Before & After Science for Virgin Records. Bureau B have reissued many of the labels best albums so they are quite easy to find on vinyl in Europe and still in press. I'm slowly making my way through listening to all the albums on Sky Records so still have some gold to discover myself.

    Recommended albums:
    Cluster - Sowiesoso (1976)
    Cluster & Eno - Cluster & Eno (1977)
Michael Rother - Flammende Herzen (1977)
Eno, Moebius, Roedelius - After The Heat (1978)
    Riechmann – Wunderbar (1978)
    Cluster – Grosses Wasser (1979)
    Günter Schickert – Überfällig (1979)
Deutsche Wertarbeit – Deutsche Wertarbeit (1981)
Rolf Trostel – Two Faces (1982)
Rolf Trostel - Der Prophet (1982)
Moebius, Plank, Neumeier – Zero Set (1983)
    Roedelius & Czjzek - Weites Land (1987)
