One of the oldest record stores in Cologne (since 1990), moved into the basement of their old store a few years ago, always worth a visit. You have to go through the fashion store first, downstairs and meet the friendly and helpful record store crew. Fair prices, main focus is on Hip Hop and different genres of electronic music (well sorted backcatalogs), as well as a lot of new (reissues too) Soul, Funk, Brazil, Latin, Reggae, Dub and Afro records. Enough record players to listen to vinyl, smoking is allowed, also offers 2nd Hand.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parallel Schallplatten
Address: Brabanter Str. 2-4
Tram station: Rudolfplatz
webpage
Facebook
Genres: almost everything
Probably the biggest Vinyl Store in Cologne and quite an institution, also offers a lot of 2nd hand vinyl. From Jazz, Classical, Punk, Indie, Post-Rock to Reggae, Latin and Soul, you can spend hours here. Some genres are very well sorted, others only offer some actual releases and won't please you, if you are really into it. Prices differ from moderate to high. Only a few record players to prelisten. They also own a professional record cleaning machine, cleaning your records over night.

A lot of Hip Hop: Golden Age to nowadays, also good selection of german, french and UK Hip Hop. At least 1/3 of the Hip Hop stuff are 12inches.
Some Soul and Jazz, topped off with some Reggae and lot of Rock records. Majority of records are 2nd hand, free coffee and a record cleaner (as far as I know the cheapest prices in Cologne), cleaning your records instantly.
Also some fine rarities in the Hip Hop genre, prices are moderate in general, but you won't make a snap on a rarity here.

Kompakt

Genres: Rock, Prog, Punk, New Wave, Soul, Reggae, Brazil, Latin, Afro, Jazz – all 2nd hand
Only opened on two days a week (Tuesday & Friday) from 4pm to 8pm, obviously a hobby-store by a viny lover. You have to ring the doorbell at the art gallery (Tastatut) and go to the back, where a lot of vinyl waits for you in a tiny old storage room, now with a living room feeling. Very fair prices, good conditions, a lot of cheapos too and always some gems to find.

Genres: Punk, Hardcore, Indie, Alternative, Postpunk, Garage, Metal, Doom, Grunge, Noise, Sludge
Underdog Records is the No.1 source for any kind of rock music happening after Punk and in business since 1997. Small and packed store, very well sorted, big backcatalog, a part of the vinyl is 2nd hand, but most is new stuff. Moderate prices, always a lot of cheapos too. Also smaller selections of Hip Hop, Soul, OST and nearby genres. Excellent store.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Black Diamond
Address: Ritterstraße 48
Tram station: Hansaring

Genres: Jazz, World, Latin, Soul, Funk, Prog, Psych, Rock, Classic – all 2nd hand
A tiny and totally packed 2nd hand spot. You are into any obscure collectors thing? This is your place to be. Yes, it's a comic store, but they also have a lot of second hand vinyl. It is like a not very well sorted but large fleamarket box: a lot of trash, but always with the chance to find the record you wanted to buy for years.

As majormajority wrote - 80% (if not 95%) of the stock is used CDs and DVDs but for fair prices ... The have a small vinyl-section in the back and I even found two "rarities"-boxes on one of the counters (but to be honest by genre not my cup of tea) ... They have other shops around cologne, but this one is the biggest. They have used vinyl (a whole room full in an old house), mostly pop/rock stuff (if you ever wanted to complete your Herbert Grönemeyer collection, this is the place to be), but I´ve also bought some jazz records there and the last time I´ve spotted a box full of techno/house 12" (I´m not into this music, so I can´t say if it was crap or not). They also sell tons of books, used clothing, furniture, bikes and fleamarket stuff in general.

Nice work!
I'm confused with regard to Nunk-Music, there's a store that fits the description located at Richard-Wagner-Straße 38 (Tram station: Moltkestr., Rudolfplatz) and the name seems to be almost the same.
Does the owner run two shops?
Edit: Okay, thanks, missed that. Must have been a nightmare of a move :) -

thank you rabbi art! I was there years ago, didn't know they still offer vinyl. I added it to the list above -
Show this post
I'd like to recommend CD-Verleih/Second-Hand Markt, obviously only if you're into 2nd hand CDs and got some time too. There's good stuff in there at reasonable prices and the selection is massive.
However, their selection of vinyl is very small, the shops around the corner are infinitely better in this regard.
-
Show this post
Parallel is moving to a new location soon, likely around the corner from the old one. -
Show this post
are they moving into a smaller premise? I always wondered how a vinyl store can exist in such huge rooms on a surely fucking expensive main road, like Parallel did for years now -
Show this post
Apparently they do pretty well for themselves. Maybe they've got a good deal back in the day? Don't know how long they've been at the Aachener premise tho.
It's a very good location but not a prime one. Ehrenstraße and such are much more expensive I guess. -
Show this post
yes, there are of course a lot of locations, which are much more expensive. But it is the only record store in this trendy quarter, which is on a main road and has a huge premise. All the others are in side streets, backyards or basements.
And the high prices at Parallel might be the consequence, but I'm only guessing.
-
Show this post
Parallel Schallplatten is moving soon, to Brabanter Str. 2-4 (in proximity of the current premise). The new store will be about the same size.
They're definitely worth a visit atm, all 7"s cost 2€, all CDs 4€ and 33% on everything else despite a small selection of the latest releases - until their move in a week or so. There are records as current as Mudhoney - Vanishing Point to which the 33% discount applies, for example.
Good guess on the high prices, I was surprised to hear that their new premise isn't gonna be smaller. -

The largest variety on used CDs you can find at "CD-Verleih/Second-Hand Markt" (Hansaring 63) but I don't expect too much electronics. Best store for electronic music is "Kompakt" (Werderstraße 15-19), but I don't know if they offer many CDs. Another good place might be "A-Musik" (Kleiner Griechenmarkt 28-30) with lots of good stuff in experimental and electronic music, but mostly on vinyl and a smaller selection on CD only.
Good luck! -
Show this post
Yeah, used electronic CDs aren't too popular in Cologne it seems.
Kompakt has a small selection of their own stuff, not used obviously. Haven't been there in ages tho.
Saturn always runs promotions on their huge stock (I think it's actually among the biggest CD/DVD etc. places in Europe), so it might be worth to check out for some 5€ pick-ups of classics. -

Right, I visited CD Verlaih and A-Musik.
CD Verlaih has a lot of electronic CDs but with mostly being House and 'IBIZA things' they weren't my style. Other than that very very little used (electronic) CDs from the 90's, mostly overpriced, but I got one famous album from the 90's for €6 (still worth) and a brand new Gabber double album only released a few days ago for €15, and that was a good deal. Nice, organised shop at any rate and nice owner too. Most used CDs look new actually.
A-Musik instead is more of 'proper' used record shop. Lots of potential interesting electronic CDs for me but most not the price I would certainly pay. Finished buying 2 CDs, not because the price was some big deal (TBH would cost the same if I bought them by post so no overpricing) but mainly for the fun of being there. Nice shop and nice owner once again. Shop opens at noon (why so late?) but I was there at 11:30 and the owner still opened for me :)
Then of course I visited MediaMarkt and Saturn, they have all the newest Dance CDs, bought again 2 Gabber CDs at the new shop price.
All in all a nice stay in the city. Xmas markets, choclates, and the main shopping area were the highlights ;) Definately a city I will recommend. -

The go to place for electronic music in cologne. Young team and ultra friendly when it comes to recommending stuff or if you just want to chat and hang out! They are doing instore sessions every month with various label showcases (the only ones in cologne) - small second hand collection. Prices are normal because mostly new releases or reissues - because the store is still a secret to most cologne based diggers you can find sold out records for a good price when they are already sold at discogs from sharks to fish food! also: Say Hi to the shops own dog called "Knut" - he usually hangs out there and probably knows the backstock better than you do! -

the store might be a secret but it's called Topic Drift, not Topdrift! -

Anybody already checked out this location ?
as/if RecordStoreCafé
http://www.as-if-records.com
By first (internet-presentation based) impression it looks like concepted hipster-thing.
Went there today (on a Sunday, bonus points), gotta give a positive review. It really just is a café with a bunch of records and nice (read: non-hipstery, not snobby) people working there. Decent espresso for 1,80 €, that's perfectly fine for a location like that imo. There are also 2nd hand records and clothes somewhere down a dungeon.
Price examples:
32€:
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Live In Paris (Seems fine)
[Bootleg that I'd rather not post here; is certainly overpriced. They probably don't know it is one.]
Kurt Vile - B'lieve I'm Goin Down... (Nope)
16 €:
Arctic Monkeys - Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys? (okay, I guess)
Plenty of Doors, Kinks, Uriah Heep etc. reissues at reasonable prices in there too. Interesting mix of records but just a small selection anyway. -

Thanks Rabbi, added it, the vinyl boom really brings a lot of new stores to Cologne in the past months, only a few years ago it seemed to be just normal, when another store closed, now a lot of fresh wind. -

Normal record store will close
Sad news for Cologne record diggers: Normal record store in Ehrenfeld, Heliosstrasse will close end of the month. This was confirmed to me by store owner Jochen. It could be possible that a second-hand record store will be continued by a different owner at the same place! -
Show this post
Again? Normal seems to close down and re-open some months later in a new location for years now. -

Yes, very sad. The owner Jochen wrote in his newsletter that he will close the shop end of the month and it didn't sound like he will re-opening soon. -

That's correct, Jochen confirmed me personally last Friday when I visited his store that he's not planning to re-open the shop later. -

Coming back to your question: yes, I have visted the Andrä store Cologne (which is located behind the WDR and Karstadt building). My impression is: 80% and more of the offer in this store is CD and DVD, vinyl is mostly standard stuff but at reasonable prices. It's worth to check this place but don't expect rare stuff or something more! -

Have been in the shop for the first time some days ago ... As majormajority wrote - 80% (if not 95%) of the stock is used CDs and DVDs but for fair prices ... The have a small vinyl-section in the back and I even found two "rarities"-boxes on one of the counters (but to be honest by genre not my cup of tea) ... If you are around the corner anyway it's worth to take a look for all intents and purposes. Taking a long way just for "digging" not yet. -

I have visited a new used & second-hand Record Store which opened about 6 weeks ago with a very nice and super-friendly store owner. It's not my musical style I'm looking for but prices seemed ok, records seemed to be in pretty good condition, too.

Obviously Belgisches Viertel is becoming the second main spot after Ritterstr. for Record Stores in Köln. So when you are around there, check it out. -

Personally I would not want to promote them even further but Saturn Hansaring is listed above already that's why I'm asking:
Would you want to list other Saturn or even Media Markt stores which offer vinyl? Of course those are not record stores in the traditional sense but big electronic chain stores. -

Saturn Hohe Straße has some vinyl (and tons of CDs).
Poor stock with mostly brand new releases and reissues.
Hohe Straße 41-53

By the way ... I just found some cheap 2nd Hand at Flohmarkthalle Köln. Vinyl (judged only the covers) is mostly in not really good condition. Mostly Rock/Pop. But you can have luck an spot something totally unexpected in their boxes.

In the north of cologne, there is one of the bigger thriftstores, located in an industrial area next to the garbage powerplant.

Thanks for the infos about Good Mood Records, added it.
About Saturn and all the other chainstores: When I started the list Saturn Hansaring was the only one selling vinyl and for a lot of genres also with quite a good selection. Well, that changed and now all the others sell vinyl too. Because it is mainly chart music or rereleases from all the well known classic rock bands, I kicked Saturn off the list and won't add any Mediamarkt or any similar (Andrä?). -

Thank you Parker Lewis and luetgewatz, I added it under a new fleamarket category. Anybody knows other fleamarkets with vinyl besides the already added one in Nippes? -

suppenteller thank you for adding Good Mood Records up there. There is small formatting error in the URL though. Maybe you can correct that?
