He collaborated with the lyricist Arthur Godfrey.
As a songwriter, he charted 57 times in the U.S. and U.K. between 1951 and 2021. "Chances Are" by Johnny Mathis was his only #1 and came in 1957. "Moments to " and "No, No, Not Much" by The Four Lads, both landed at #2 in the U.S. in 1955 and 1956, respectively. "If Dreams Came True" by Pat Boone was his highest charting U.K. hit at #16 in 1958 (and #7 in the U.S.). "Everybody Loves a Lover" by Doris Day also landed on both charts in 1958--at #25 in the U.K. and #6 in the U.S.
