His sons were Arnold Ahlert, and Frederick Emil Ahlert, Jr. Ahlert most frequently collaborated with lyricist Edgar Leslie. His songs have been recorded by numerous artists, including Fats Waller. Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
