Earl "Oil" Letiecq was the original guitarist and founding member of the Chicago-based punk band, the Effigies. Unlike the other of the Effigies, Earl was not a native Chicagoan. He was originally from upstate New York, where he had performed under the name "Oil Slick" with a punk band called Wreck 'N' Crew and moved to Chicago in 1980, where he met the other founding of the Effigies. Earl recorded two EPs, a single, and one LP with Effigies before being fired in 1984 due to personal differences with the rest of the group. In 1986, he and Effigies singer Dave Bergeron. That group released a few EPs before disbanding. In the 1990s, Earl played in a local rock band called The Beer Nuts and participated in a few one-off reunions with the original line up of the Effigies. However, when the Effigies decided to reunite full-time in 2004, Earl declined to participate.
